Anna Matthew is a ceramic and fibre artist from Vancouver, Canada. She grew up exploring the forests of the Pacific Northwest and feels most at home surrounded by cedar, douglas fir, and hemlock trees. She creates because it feels like home, a lump of clay or a pile of wool is always up for some conversation.

Anna sees fired ceramic not as a solid or singular object but instead as a collection of particles that are continuously shape-shifting, containing every thought, memory, and emotion embedded into them.

Working with clay and fibre Anna explores the world of embodied language. Inspired by how nature writes its autobiography within itself, she realigns wool fibres into long hand-spun threads, capturing thought within them and creating a language beautifully truthful, embodied, and intuitive.
